When asked why this play was selected for the 2006-2007 season, Stephen Elton, Beowulf Alley Theatre Company’s Artistic Director said,“Everybody loves a good ghost story. However, in my ten years of doing theatre in Tucson I haven’t seen too many produced for the stage. I’ve seen shows that have used the device of a ghost to tell a story, but most were comedies and that is what I love the most about The Woman in Black…it is simply meant to scare you.  This show has been playing in London for 17 years and with one part of our mission being dedicated to producing daring material that otherwise might not be done in Tucson, this choice was an easy one for me to make.  Interestingly enough, after I first heard about this show from Terry Erbe, I did some research both over the internet and with local theatregoers who had seen the show in London.  What I found consistently was those who had seen the show had jumped out of their pants at some point in the play.  So this season we have made patrons think, laugh and cry…now we want to scare you.”
