The Birthday Party
By Harold Pinter
Stanley Webber is the only guest staying in Meg and Petey Boles' seaside bed and breakfast. One morning, while Meg and Stanley are bantering over breakfast, she mentions that two visitors are coming to stay for the night. Stanley immediately grows apprehensive. His fears are confirmed when the two visitors arrive. Meg announces that it's Stanley's birthday, even though Stanley insists it is not. After a few glasses of whiskey and a game of blind man's bluff, Stanley's birthday party slowly starts to feel less like a celebration and more like a bad dream.
